Southern European style Tilt and Slide Patio Doors in Mayfair

Hidden away in Mayfair, London, this unique property gives it’s owners a continental style retreat from the hustle and bustle outside the gates. Gowercroft were commissioned to design, build and install a series of tilt and slide patio doors. It was important that the new fittings matched the souther European feel of the home.

The Strength, durability and good looks of Tilt and Slide Patio Doors

The owners were not just interested in the aesthetics of their new windows and doors – functionality and longevity were also very important.

We built the frames using Laminated Oak. This gives a much more rigid frame than just standard timber. A frame that does not flex does not damage the paint work or the glass and applies much less stress to the hinges and fittings. We are confident that, no matter how much use they get, these beautiful windows and doors will give the owners many years of trouble free and maintenance free service.

What are Tilt and Slide Patio Doors?

Tilt and turn windows are very popular in continental Europe and are well suited to commercial and large residential buildings such as apartment blocks. They are hinged both vertically and horizontally. In one function they open like regular casement windows (horizontally). However when opened vertically they provide excellent ventilation and are totally secure as the angle of the aperture allows no access to the opening mechanism from the outside. Tilt and turn windows also feature multiple locking points when closed for additional security.

Critical Acclaim for Endsor Mews

Feature in House and Garden Magazine

The house was described as a feature article in the November 2011 edition of Conde Nast’s House and Garden magazine. They have kindly allowed us to reproduce the story in it’s original format for your viewing pleasure.

Not many people would make an immediate connection between 007 and the current concern for saving the planet. If you stop to think about it, however, that supercool secret agent always managed to combine the latest technology with the ultimate in urban sophistication. When it comes to this house, its owner is no different. “I see it as a sort of Bond-like lair,” he says.

Our Quarter Page Mention

The ‘Tilt and Turn’ and ‘Tilt and Slide’ laminated oak windows in Tim’s house were designed, made and installed by Gowercroft Joinery (01773-300510; www.gowercroft.com). Beyond their good looks, they combine energy-efficient glass, which maximises light penetration and minimises heat loss, with draughtproof frames. A small ‘Tilt and Turn’ window costs around £700.

A beautifully renovated white brick house with well-maintained green lawn and blooming flower pots in the foreground. The house features Gowercroft Joinery's timber windows, including Winston Heritage Sliding Sash Windows and a Churchill Heritage Door. The windows and door seamlessly blend with the historical aesthetic of the property, showcasing a successful combination of heritage design and modern functionality.
