Experienced property developer Steph Snooks was adamant the Accoya windows and woodwork were the perfect solution for her magnificent renovation project in the village of Quarndon in Derbyshire. Mrs Snooks was focused on sourcing a high quality product that would add character to the property.

Gowercroft were recommended by a tradesman working on a neighbouring project, and after some discussion and a tour of our workshop, Steph was highly impressed and awarded us the contract for new bespoke windows, doors and external joinery. We worked closely together to achieve all that Steph needed in terms of style and performance from the windows and doors.
I built Chestnut House in 2015/2016. It was to be the dream family forever home and after carefully researching a number of companies I chose Gowercroft to undertake the project making our bespoke Accoya windows, doors and various other timber elements.
Steph has a keen eye for design and went to great lengths to make sure every aspect of the build was aligned to her vision for the property. Steph had spent a lot of time and money on a particular roof tile, and as such she wanted something extra special to accompany this. We designed enhanced fascia and barge boards for the whole house, manufactured from high quality Accoya and fully factory finished to match the quality and longevity of the bespoke Accoya windows and doors.
As a property developer by trade I knew exactly how I wanted things to look and attention to detail was of great importance.
A few features the project consisted of were noise reducing glass to all of the windows and doors facing the road. Steph was also keen to have a pre-antiqued, rectangular leads to the front elevation for added character. We gave Steph the freedom to find the perfect colour to compliment her natural stone bays as we offer full paint matching services.
We used the Hardwick Flush Casement window from our Classic Range for this project. These traditionally styled windows offer exceptional draught proofing, energy efficiency and security. In addition to the windows was the requirement for an exit onto a patio to the rear of the property. This remarkable feature was to comprise two large bifolding doors that we manufactured from Accoya. These Bi-Folding doors slide in a concertina motion to one side opening up the whole space. Doors like these are a great way to make the most of the warm weather blurring the lines between inside and outside living.

We needed large Bi-Fold doors to cover 5.5m by 2.4m openings and I was determined these would be made in timber. To gain the required stability we chose to use Accoya – it’s worth every penny. Not only does it give a low carbon footprint – the windows will probably outlive me – but 18 months on they still look brand new and are easy to operate – it’s an incredibly durable and stable product. We also used it for the windows and bargeboards and are looking forward to many years of zero maintenance except for keeping them clean! The paint finish is of extremely high quality and I’m sure will last for many more years to come and there is the option to dual colour – not offered by many companies.Whatever your requirements are, be they contemporary or traditional, Gowercroft will tailor a package to suit your project. We use Accoya in the manufacture of our windows and doors because it has outstanding durability and stability. It has a 70 year minimum service life (stated by TRADA). It’s improved stability over other timbers means that doors and windows open effortlessly year round. Also, with this reduced swelling and shrinkage, any coatings will last up to two times longer. With it’s enhanced lifespan and reduced maintenance, the environmental impact from using Accoya is greatly reduced.
